Laura Walsh (Starlight)

What is play for the older child, teen, adolescent, or young person? Do we stop playing because we age or age because we stop playing? Using phenomenological research methods to look at the experiences of young people out of work and education I surmised that play, although it might look different, is present in young people's behaviours. Further to this it is a helpful way to reclaim power. In this session we'll look at how this could inform our interactions with young people in our practices.

Laura Walsh - currently the Head of Play and Practice at Starlight the national charity for improving children's health through play. Previously head of play at Great Ormond street and before that head of children and youth programmes at Central YMCA in London. Laura completed a MA in Children and play at Gloucester university. The final research project examined the play behaviours of young people enrolled in a London employability programme.
